Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this paper banner (we auctioned the same banner twice, and this could very well be that same poster that has now been linenbacked and restored)! Note that the printer of this banner spelled Errol Flynn's name incorrectly (which seems remarkable, given that he was a huge star at this time)! We don't know if anyone caught it and printed new ones correctly, because we have never seen this banner before (and likely will never see it again, because it is surely incredibly rare). Also, note that in the late 1940s, studios began making paper banners that measure 24" x 84", and were printed on a heavy stock, similar to that used for 40x60s. Many people believe they were created for the huge drive-in market that was growing rapidly at this time. This poster is printed on regular one-sheet-like paper on a single huge 24" x 84" sheet! We had never seen a paper banner like this before we were consigned two of them in June of 2015. Given that these date from a few years before the "regular" paper banners became standard, we suspect they started out making them like this, and then when they got all torn up due to their large size, they switched to the heavier stock. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had some tears and tiny paper loss on parts of the folds and some ink transfer in the background areas, and some paper loss in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed and displays well, but most of the white areas were painted over to "even them out".
