eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 4b0906 ELDRIDGE CLEAVER local theater 1sh 1970 revolutionary black panther documentary, beyond rare! Date Sold 4/11/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Local Theater Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 26 1/4" x 40 1/4" [67 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Eldridge Cleaver (released in France as "Eldridge Cleaver, Black Panther"), the 1970 William Klein Algerian/French biographical documentary ("The most important film ever shown in America") featuring Eldridge Cleaver (the controversial black African American leader of the radical revolutionary group, the Black Panthers) and Kathleen Cleaver. Based on the single U.S. poster that we have seen, we know that this documentary was shown in New York City in 1970 in at least two theaters (the Regency and Cinema II) for a limited time, but beyond that we don't know how much distribution it ever had. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this poster! It was consigned to us by a man who worked at various New York City movie theaters in the 1960s and 1970s (and also at 20th Century-Fox), and he acquired a number of movie posters that were created for specific New York City theaters during their limited showings. We have previously auctioned some posters from this man's collection, and this one is another one, which was used at the Regency Theatre in New York City at Broadway and 67th Street. It had a snipe over the bottom area from when it was used again at the Cinema II theater in New York City. This poster was created for this specific engagement of this movie at this specific theater, and likely is the only example of the poster that survives (only a few would have been printed, at the most). This is the "single U.S. poster" mentioned in the Description area above. Also note that this one-sheet measures 26 1/4" x 40 1/4" [67 x 102 cm], but it has not been trimmed. Condition: good to very good. The poster was folded by hand and not perfectly evenly. There is a tiny brown stain at the bottom center and a faint brown stain on the back of the top center of the poster that very slightly bleeds through to the front. There are some creases scattered in the poster. The poster can be displayed as it is, but certainly this rare and historic poster deserves to be backed, so it will look its absolute best!
