ALEXANDER CRYSTAL-SEER ALEXANDER CRYSTAL-SEER special poster OR search current auctions Auction History Result b008 ALEXANDER CRYSTAL-SEER Indian magic show poster c15 Date Sold 10/11/2007Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Folded Indian Magic Show Poster (measures 14" x 41") (Learn More) Alexander Crystal-Seer (born as Claude Alexander Conlin), the circa 1915 Indian magic show poster ("World's Greatest Master of Mental Mystics") used to advertise Alexander the magician. The poster features a really cool artwork image of a skeleton hand holding a crystal ball in front of Alexander's face. Alexander is wearing a turban, and behind him are six skulls floating in the background! Alexander was a famous magician of the 1910s and 1920s, and he had a fascinating, if seedy, private life, having married 11 times, and being a professional con man as a sideline to his magic business! Note that this poster is undated, but it is absolutely an original vintage poster. The only small writing at the bottom of the poster says "AV YAGA BOMBAY" and a copyright credit that reads "C. ALEXANDER", indicating it was printed for Alexander's tour of India, which apparently occurred around 1915. Note that this image has been sold as a reproduction countless times in countless sizes, but this is absolutely one of the original posters from which the reproductions were taken! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the poster has been folded for many years (into roughly 11" x 14" size), and will be sent folded, in one of our extra heavy duty boxes. Condition: good. Someone put masking tape on the back of all four borders and three pieces of masking tape on the back of tears in the borders. The entire top quarter of the poster has separated along the horizontal fold and there is a 3" vertical tear in the black background just to the left of the highest skull. There is a large faint water stain in the upper left half of the image, but it is barely noticeable from the front. The tape on the back of the borders has bled through to the front, but it mostly does not show at all in the black background areas, and only shows in the light lettering. This is the sort of poster that responds really well to restoration! The tape can be professionally removed, and it is likely that some or all of the light water staining can be removed during the linenbacking process. After proper linenbacking (or paperbacking), the poster will look great, and it likely will have little paint restoration anywhere in the image. Learn More about condition grades
