World Day of Solidarity With the Struggle of the People of Puerto Rico, the 1972 Cuban OSPAAAL poster (in multiple languages) promoting September 23th and featuring Olivio Matiniez artwork. OSPAAAL (The Organization of Solidarity with the People of Asia, Africa and Latin America) is a Cuban political movement with the stated purpose of promoting the causes of socialism and communism in the Third World, fighting globalization, imperialism, neoliberalism and defending human rights. OSPAAAL was founded in Havana in January 1966, after the Tricontinental Conference, a meeting of leftist delegates from several nations. Many of the posters created by OSPAAAL featured multiple languages so they could be used for international audiences, and they often came in copies of OSPAAAL's Tricontinental magazine. The U.S. embargo of Cuba and the fall of the Soviet Union eventually caused considerable difficulty in poster production, and it wasn't until the 2000s that production was able to increase again.
