An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Beloved Brat, the 1938 Arthur Lubin troubled teen melodrama ("The sensation of the hour!"; "Are they the marked women of tomorrow?"; "From an original story by Jean Negulesco" a complicated story of a 13 year-old rich girl whose parents ignore her, and she has a black friend whose family treats her lovingly, but her parents forbid her to be with them, and she ends up in a car accident with her parents' butler, and she is sent to a progressive reform school where she changes her ways, and is able to get her parents to change theirs too, and to accept her black friends) starring Bonita Granville, Dolores Costello, Donald Briggs, Donald Crisp, and Matthew 'Stymie' Beard. Note that this movie has a very complicated origin! It was originally titled "Girls on Probation", which means that it likely had a somewhat different plot, but at some point after they began filming, they settled on the plot described above, at which point the movie's title was changed to "The Beloved Brat" (after first considering using the title "Too Much of Everything"). But almost surely because Warner Bros. had already announced that they would make "Girls on Probation" (and in fact, we have seen the window card and insert from that intended release), they went ahead and made a movie of that title to replace the changed one, which actually did center around girls on probation, and which starred Jane Bryan and Ronald Reagan!

Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card has been personally autographed (signed) by Bonita Granville! Note that this card has a stamp on the back that indicates it came from the legendary "Cozy Theater" collection! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Note that this signed lobby card (and 63 others) comes from the collection of the late Bob Colman, owner of the Hollywood Poster Exchange store in Los Angeles for decades. What made this store so wonderful for collectors was that Mr. Colman sold the legendary "Cozy Theatre" collection, which he purchased (with a partner) in 1968, and it took over 30 years for him to sell the contents of that single collection, and many of the items contained in it were stamped with "Cozy Theatre" on the back, so they are easily identifiable today. But Mr. Colman was also well known for having Hollywood celebrities shop at his store, where they would often look to purchase items from movies they had appeared in. When a celebrity would come in, Mr. Colman would locate a lobby card from his inventory and ask the celebrity to sign it. Sometimes they would personalize it to him, sometimes to his wife, Janet, and sometimes they would simply sign their name. This lobby card comes from the estate of Bob Colman and was signed by the celebrity in his presence, and personalized to Mr. Colman. We do not have a certificate of authenticity, but we are certain the autograph is genuine (and the lobby card has great provenance)!

As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes.

Condition: very good. The card has slightly darkened, typical of Warner Bros. linen lobby cards of this period, but it is not very fragile. There are small creases in three corners. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
