An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 24 1/4" x 33" [62 x 84 cm]) (Learn More) Buster Keaton, a 1930s Belgian stock poster created so theaters that were showing Buster Keaton movies could just use this poster to advertise them. Note that it would seem unlikely that this poster could date from the time when Buster Keaton was making films for MGM, because one would think their name would appear on the poster, so it seems more likely it is from the early 1930s, but we really don't know (but we do know it is a really cool image with great art of Keaton!). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a rare "pre-War" Belgian poster. Prior to World War II, Belgian posters were much larger than the ones from after the war, and they are extremely rare (because during WWII, there was a massive paper shortage in Belgium, and they took virtually every poster and map, and printed new posters on the backs of them!). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was folded like a U.S. one-sheet and there is an extra slightly diagonal fold across the middle (1" above the regular middle fold). There were two slightly diagonal partial vertical creases running in the left and right of his forehead, and many scuffs and smudges scattered in Keaton's face (we cannot tell if some of this could be a printing defect, or if it was all acquired after the poster was printed). There were some scuffs and smudges in the rest of the poster. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. From close up, the many creases, scuffs, and smudges are very noticeable, but from any reasonable viewing distance, they become much less distracting, so I can imagine many collectors displaying this cool poster just as it is, while others might opt to have additional restoration performed.
