An Unfolded French Special Poster (measures 21 1/2" x 31 1/2" [55 x 80 cm]) (Learn More) A L'age Atomique (literally translates to "In the Atomic Age"), the 1946 French poster (featuring taglines which translate to "In the atomic age, world peace is based on a formula 'Science in the service of mankind', by Socialism") endorsing Socialism, and featuring art by Anri Ubair. A surprisingly positive view on nuclear power in the year after the atomic bombs were dropped in Japan on Hiroshima and Nagasaki! In August of 1945, the first widely distributed account of nuclear energy, in the form of the pocketbook titled The Atomic Age, discussed the peaceful future uses of nuclear energy and depicted a future where fossil fuels would go unused. Nobel laureate Glenn Seaborg, who later chaired the Atomic Energy Commission, is quoted as saying "there will be nuclear powered earth-to-moon shuttles, nuclear powered artificial hearts, plutonium heated swimming pools for scuba divers, and much more".
