An Undated (probably late 1940s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47 1/4" x 63" [120 x 160 cm]) (Learn More) A Nous La Liberte (literally translates to "We Have Freedom"), the classic 1931 Rene Clair French musical comedy starring Henri Marchand, Raymond Cordy, Rolla France, Paul Olivier, and Jacques Shelly. Note that Charlie Chaplin liberally "borrowed" from the plot of this movie for his classic "City Lights". When the producers of "A Nous La Liberte" attempted to sue Chaplin, director Rene Clair testified that ALL filmmakers owed a huge debt to Charlie Chaplin, and that NO filmmakers should ever consider suing Chaplin, and of course, that ended that lawsuit! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Roger Cartier Important Added Info: Note that this poster (which is a "country of origin" poster) is a re-release from after World War II. We asked three major French experts for an exact date for this poster, and one said "likely 1945 or 1946", one said "late 1940s", and the third said "from 1951"! So we don't have an exact answer to when it is from, but it surely dates from between 1945 and 1951 (and for the vast majority of collectors, this is the only way to get a poster on this classic title, because first release posters from 1931 are incredibly rare!). What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of some foldlines (more so in the top quarter of the middle vertical foldline. It had darkened somewhat, more so around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
