He received the Medal of Honor in recognition of his role in air combat during the Guadalcanal Campaign, when he became the first American pilot to tie World War I ace Eddie Rickenbacker's record. He also served as president of the NRA and was the first commissioner of the American Football League! Foss passed away in 2003 at the age of 87. Important Added Info: This index card has been personally autographed (signed) by Joe Foss! It was nicely matted with two REPRODUCTION photos and a paper snipe to make a cool display that is ready to frame and hang on your wall! Note that this is one of a wonderful collection of 36 items that were assembled by a collector decades ago, mostly from RR Auctions, which has auctioned signed items since 1976. The person who purchased these items passed away several years ago, and while he did not save most of the certificates of authenticity he received when he bought these signed items, almost all were purchased between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, and we think it is extremely likely that the autograph on this item is genuine. In our last auction, we auctioned around 90 items from this same consignor. Now we are auctioning the last of this wonderful collection, and after this, there will be no more left to auction! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction.
