A 1960 Re-release Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, the classic 1958 Alfred Hitchcock San Francisco California suspense obsessive love crime mystery thriller ("Alfred Hitchcock's Masterpiece"; "Based upon the novel D'Entre Les Morts by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac"; "Music by Bernard Herrmann"; about a man with a fear of heights who is caught up in a murder, or is he?, and he meets a woman who looks very similar to the "dead girl", and he becomes obsessed with solving the mystery) starring James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart), Kim Novak (in a dual role), Barbara Bel Geddes, Tom Helmore, and Henry Jones. Note that John Whitney Sr. (who did the spiral title sequence for the movie) also did the spiral art for the posters from this movie, which was utilized by the poster artist Saul Bass. Also note that Alfred Hitchcock did not make a final decision on what to name this movie until the last minute! At various times, it had working titles of Darkling I Listen, Fear and Trembling, From Among the Dead, and Illicit Darkening. Many of the early advertising stills don't have a title at all, but say "An Alfred Hitchcock Production". Personally, we think "Vertigo" is a better title than any of those other four! Finally, note that critical acclaim for this movie has consistently risen in the years since it was first released. In fact, in the 2012 "Sight and Sound" poll of top movie critics, Vertigo was declared to be the number one film of all time, over Citizen Kane, and every other masterpiece! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that Paramount Pictures released this movie in 1958, and in 1965, it sold the rights to a number of movies to Universal Studios, including this one. Since this re-release if from Paramount, it is a certainty it is from between 1959 and 1964. It can't be from 1963, because the re-release from that year went through the NSS and has a 1963 NSS number in the lower right. It seems really possible that this card is from a non-U.S. "international" release of this movie from between 1959 and 1962. We have heard that it is from 1961 from some collectors, but another expert points out that there are 1960 dated stills which seem to confirm the date. Note that this re-release lobby card set includes images that are different from those in the 1958 set, and that set was only 2-color, while this re-release set is full-color! Finally, note that these cards are far more rare than either the ones from 1958 or the ones from 1963. Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.
UPDATED 12/08/2013: We have updated the Important Added Info. Condition: very good. There is a faint diagonal "wave" in the right of the card running from the top border above the center of the image and down to the right border 1" below the bottom. It is NOT a crease, and it is barely noticeable from the front. There are pinholes in the corners. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition! Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
