Fires of Faith, the 1919 Edward Jose silent World War I (WWI) Salvation Army romantic love triangle melodrama (based on the story by Charles E. Whittaker; about a farm girl who is raped and goes to New York City, where she lives in the Bowery; at the same time, a wealthy young man and his fiancee mock the Salvation Army, not realizing all the good it does; after many coincidences, the farm girl ends up a Salvation Army nurse in France in World War I, where the wealthy man is now a pilot, and he is injured, and she nurses him back to health, but surprisingly, they DON'T fall in love, but both end up happily with their respective mates) starring Catherine Calvert, Eugene O'Brien, Rubye De Remer (billed as "Ruby de Remer"), Helen Dunbar, Theodore Roberts, Charles Olge, and Evangeline Booth (billed as "Showing Commander Evangeline Booth in authentic scenes of Salvation Army activities"; Booth was the daughter of the couple who founded what was then called "The Christian Mission", but which became the Salvation Army in 1878, and Booth would eventually be elected as the Salvation Army's first female General!). Note that this movie was basically an "infomercial" for the Salvation Army, telling of all the good it did during World War I and at other times, and a fictional story was added to it to keep the audience's attention! Also, this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
