Lady Janet ("Sidewise launching of the 3500-ton S.S. 'Lady Janet' at the Great Lakes Engineering Co. Yard, Ecorse, Michigan, July 4th, 1918"; "United States Shipping Board"; "Emergency Fleet Corporation") and featuring Joseph Pennell art of the ship being launched to the cheers of workers. Similar to efforts in World War II (WWII), the United States rushed to produce the many war and transport ships that it would need for World War I (WWI). A total of 531 Victory ships were built. Artist: Joseph Pennell Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. It appears the poster was never folded. It had very minor wear. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Note that at some point after linenbacking, the poster was roughly handled and there are now minor creases in the top border (almost completely in the excess linen, but in one place only touching into the actual poster). Also, the bottom left corner of the linen is creased, and again, it is almost completely in the excess linen, but very slightly touching the very corner of the poster (and the crease of the linen caused a shadow in our image, but the shadow is solely in our image).
