An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Dutch Movie Poster (measures 25 1/2" x 41 1/4" [65 x 105 cm]) (Learn More) Maciste Imperatore (literally translates to "Emperor Maciste"), the 1924 Guido Brignone Italian silent sword-and-sandal adventure sequel starring Bartolomeo Pagano (in the title role as Maciste), Elena Sangro, Domenico Gambino, Franz Sala, and Lola Romano. Note that Maciste is one of the oldest recurring characters in cinema, created by Gabriele d'Annunzio and Giovanni Pastrone. He cuts a heroic figure throughout the history of the cinema of Italy from the 1910s to the 1960s. He is usually depicted as a Hercules-like figure, utilizing his massive strength to achieve heroic feats that ordinary men cannot. Many of the 1960s Italian films featuring Maciste were re-titled in other countries, substituting more popular names in the titles (such as Hercules, Goliath or Samson). If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare poster. We have only auctioned one example in all our years of auctioning! Also, it was printed using the linocut printmaking technique, in which a sheet of linoleum is used for a relief surface. Virtually no Dutch posters survive from the 1940s or earlier, because during World War II there were many paper shortages resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! Condition: fair to good. There is tape on the back of all four borders. The back of the bottom border has caused much of the bottom border to separate from the rest of the poster and there are tears along that area with a diagonal tear in the bottom right, in the image. There are also tears and paper loss in the top blank border. There is a 2" tear in the bottom center of the image. The poster is fragile, but after linenbacking it will display well and will require little paint restoration within the image. Learn More about condition grades
