Hollywood Hotel, the 1937 Busby Berkeley Los Angeles California romantic musical comedy ("The Hollywood Hotel Program direct from The Orchid Room of the Air") starring Dick Powell, Rosemary Lane, Hugh Herbert, Ted Healy (most famous as the person who started The Three Stooges; they were first billed as "Ted Healy and his Stooges"; he let them go on their own, hiring replacement "Stooges", but that did not work out well at all!), Benny Goodman ("King of Swing") and his Orchestra, Louella Parsons, Glenda Farrell, Lola Lane, Johnnie Davis, Alan Mowbray, Frances Langford, Jerry Cooper, Ken Niles, Duane Thompson, Raymond Paige and his Orchestra, Mabel Todd, Allyn Joslyn, Edgar Kennedy, and Harry James. Note that there was a real life Hollywood Hotel that was a major Hollywood institution in the 1930s (famous stars would gather there). This movie is set at the real life hotel! It also had a premiere on December 20th before receiving a wide release in January of 1938.

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this pressbook! It is very unusual compared to other pressbooks of this time, because it has covers that are a folder (but both covers are in color) and inside is a separate publicity section with a pocket on the back that has two supplements. Also note that pressbooks were prepared prior to a movie being released. Often, changes would be made in a movie advertising campaign (billing of actors, different images, etc.), and the theaters would print up special supplements that they would send out with the pressbooks that had already been printed. These supplements are very rare, far more rare than the pressbooks themselves! Some pressbooks would have no supplements, some would have one, and some would have several. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Condition: good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut and it is folded across the middle. The cover has many creases and scuffs around the edges, with some scattered in the top half of the cover. It also has a 9" tear near the bottom of the front cover, which has tape on the back. However, the back cover, which has a great color picture of the 24-sheet, is in pretty nice condition (see our image).
