If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this Australian movie that measures 8 1/4" x 15 1/2", may be the most rare and most desirable first release Mad Max poster there is! What exactly IS this special poster? It is believed that director George Miller had these posters printed himself as a sort of "wilding" poster (printed with play dates and theater name), designed to be put up all over town so that more people would learn of the movie! Remember that this movie was really unknown at this time, and it is thought that Mr. Miller himself put these on display, and also mailed examples of this poster (with the bottom area trimmed off) to media outlets, along with a letter, inviting them to a special screening! No one even knew this poster existed until 20 years after they were first made, when a collector found one, and since that time, two more have been discovered, but the other two do not have the bottom play dates area! So, to the best of our knowledge, this is the only surviving example of this poster, complete with play dates! Note that this movie had a very limited first release in 1979, and the one-sheets and daybills are a sort of purple color. When it became a big hit, a very limited number of orange posters were printed, and then "semi-gloss" blue posters were printed, all in 1979 (the semi-gloss, or matte finish blue posters were printed when the movie proved to be a hit, continuing the play in drive-ins!). In 1981, the movie had a major re-release, and full-gloss blue posters were printed for that re-release. Note that the eight Mad Max posters and the one Mad Max 2 poster we are offering (in nine separate auctions) come to us from a VERY longtime collector of Mad Max material. Several of these items are extremely difficult to find and rarely are offered for sale or at auction! This is a rare opportunity to acquire the most desired and most rare posters from this classic movie! Condition: very good. The poster was folded across the middle. It has an incredibly tiny pinhole in the upper right border, right at the edge. It has a faint stain on the back of the middle left of the poster that slightly shows through to the front, but it is not at all distracting, because it is in the sky area. There are a few faint creases scattered in the poster. Otherwise, the poster is in pretty nice condition (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
