A Folded Israeli Special Poster (measures 26 3/4" x 39" [68 x 99 cm]) (Learn More) Berl Katznelson was a Belarusian journalist and intellectual from the 1910s to the 1940s. He was one of the intellectual founders of Labor Zionism, instrumental to the establishment of the modern state of Israel, and the editor of Davar, the first daily newspaper of the workers' movement. He was born in Russia in 1887, and from an early age dreamed of moving to what was then Palestine. He moved there in 1909, and was one of the founders of the Israeli workers union, the "Histadrut". In 1925, he was the founder and first editor-in-chief of the Davar daily newspaper and also founded the Am Oved publishing company. He advocated peaceful coexistence between Arabs and Jews in Israel. He passed away in 1944 at the age 57 from an aneurysm, so sadly he did not live to see the founding of modern day Israel. He is commemorated in many places and many ways in modern day Israel. Note that this poster was folded like a U.S. one-sheet and then mailed without any envelope to the "International Institut Voor Sociale Geschiedenis" in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and there is a postal cancellation in the corner! It was not unusual in the United States for theaters to mail posters to exchanges and vice versa, but this is perhaps the first time we have seen this with a non-U.S. non-movie poster. We did not picture the back of the poster, but it is there, and cool to look at! It was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: very good. There are some small tears and tiny bits of paper loss in the right border. Otherwise, the poster is in pretty nice condition, with minor fold and border wear.
