An Unfolded Swiss Travel Poster (measures 25 1/4" x 40" [64 x 102 cm]) (Learn More)

Pan Am: Switzerland, the 1940s (perhaps 1944) Swiss airplane airline aviation travel poster ("Fly by Clipper to Switzerland for the thrill of your life in winter"; "Hiver en Suisse"; "Winter in Switzerland"; "Pan American Airways System") promoting travel to Switzerland aboard Pan Am's Boeing 314 Clipper flying boats, and featuring wonderful Richard Gerbig art of skiers, bobsledders, and a snowy village! Note that this is likely the earliest airplane travel poster we have ever auctioned, because airplane travel did not become something available for the general public until around the time this poster was made (and commercial airplanes were pretty primitive at the start, so they were really speaking literally when they wrote "Fly by Clipper for the thrill of your life")! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Artist: Richard Gerbig

Condition: good. The poster has fine creases scattered throughout and creases and tears of varying lengths (generally 1" or less but some are larger) along portions of some edges. There is a larger tear at upper center that has been repaired with tape from the back and there is a tape stain at upper right that has been covered by white paint. After proper restoration the poster will display well, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
