6 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Bells, the 1926 James Young silent murder insanity melodrama ("Sir Henry Irving's masterpiece"; about a man who is offered a wonderful chance to improve himself in life, but to do so, he must commit murder, and he does so at Christmas time, and after that, whenever he hears bells, he is reminded of the Christmas bells chiming while he killed the man, and he is slowly driven insane and confesses his crime) starring Lionel Barrymore, Lola Todd, Eddie Phillips, Otto Lederer, Gustav von Seyffertitz, Caroline Frances Cooke, Lorimer Johnston, and Boris Karloff (as The Mesmerist!). Note that because the title of this movie is that of one of Edgar Allan Poe's most famous poems, and because the plot is very similar to Poe's "The Tell Tale Heart", many people, including us, have wrongly assumed that this was based on Poe's work; but actually, it was based on a play written in 1867; when the play was translated into English, it was titled "The Bells", because of their importance to the plot!

Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare group of lobby cards for this movie! We only have auctioned two groups of lobby cards for this movie and they were both sold in 2003, and otherwise we have only auctioned a single still and no other movie paper from it in all of our years of auctioning!

Condition: good to very good. The card pictured at upper left in our first image has discoloration at upper right in the blank border and some paper loss at lower right. The card pictured under it has a tear at bottom, paper loss in the right corners and some smudges and faint stains around the edges. The card pictured to its upper right has some discoloration around the edges and the other three cards have some lesser staining in portions of the lower blank border and some paper loss in some corners (see our images for their exact locations). The corners of the cards have become somewhat fragile, but the images on each card are still in pretty nice condition, and they have no tape whatsoever on the front or back, and they never have had any restoration of any kind.
