An Original 1958 (from the first Argentinean release of this movie) Vintage Theatrical Folded Argentinean Movie Poster (measures approximately 29" x 43") (Learn More) Campane a Martello (literally translates to "Hammer Bells"), the 1949 Luigi Zampa Italian romantic comedy melodrama (about a maid from a small Italian town who goes to a big city in World War II, and she becomes a prostitute, and she sends all the money she makes to a priest in her home town, so that he can save it and she can open a clothing store when she returns, but when she does get back, she finds the priest has died, and his successor thought the money she sent was for charity, and spent it all on children, and all the townspeople think she is rich and they want even more money from her!) starring Gina Lollobrigida, Yvonne Sanson, Eduardo De Filippo, Clelia Matania, Ernesto Almirante, Carlo Romano and Carlo Giustini. Note that this movie was filmed in an Italian version with the above actors, and the same director also filmed it in English (under the title "Children of Chance") with Patricia Medina, Manning Whiley, and Yvonne Mitchell in the starring roles, and an all-English cast! Also note that one would think that Gina Lollobrigida would have been an overnight success, but actually, it took her several years! She made her first movie in 1945 or 1946 when she was 18 (it was a bit part, and she had a few other bit parts in movies over the next two years). In 1947, she entered the Miss Italy pageant, but she only came in third (first and second were taken by Lucia Bose and Gianna Maria Canale, both of whom went on to long film careers). In 1948, she was the female lead of the film "Pagliacci", but it was not a starring role. The following year, she made this movie, which was her first starring role, and within a few years she was an international star! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
