Cooper"; based on the story by Edgar Wallace, with incredible special effects by Willis O'Brien) starring Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong (as Carl Denham), Bruce Cabot, Frank Reicher, and Sam Hardy NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that for this 1942 re-release, RKO not only added a really cool "is loose!" below the title, but they also added great different artwork of Kong holding Fay Wray in the lower right corner (and of course, these cards are full-color, which is not always the case with re-releases). They are certainly far more rare than the original 1933 cards, likely because not nearly as many theaters played the movie in 1942, whereas in 1933, the movie was a massive success and played all over the world to great acclaim! Note that this card has been graded and authenticated by mpgrading.com. This means that a corner of the card has been "encrypted with a unique 9-digit serial number with invisible DNA-laced ink", which can be seen with a special scanner, and this info has been attached to a separate Certificate of Authenticity. On that certificate, the card ha been given a grade of "fine - (6.5) - RG", but of course, that grading scale is not the same as ours, and on ours, we grade this card as "very good" (see below). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Finally, note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Also note that this lobby card has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the lobby card was backed onto a very light paper backing (acid-free), that keeps the "feel" of the lobby card similar to that of the original lobby card. Some restorers prefer to paperback lobby cards on to a heavy backing, while others prefer to use a very lightweight backing. The advantage of a lightweight backing is that the card still "feels" like a regular lobby card, but a heavier backing makes restoration easier to do and less noticeable. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had many tiny staple holes scattered around the edges and several scattered through the image, but they were truly very tiny. The card had a tear and tiny paper loss in the right blank corners. Overall, the lobby card was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. The card was expertly backed by a really talented restorer, and not only does it display well, but it does not have a "restored" look, and we think just about every collector would be very happy to display this great card on their wall!
