An Original Vintage French Exhibitor Magazine (measures 9 1/2" x 12 1/4" [24 x 31 cm]; 64 pages) (Learn More)

La Cinematographie Francaise (literally translates to "French Cinematography") was French exhibitor magazine that was published from 1918 to 1966. It was similar to U.S. exhibitor magazines of the same time period (with illustrated ads for then current movies and stories about then current movies and stars). It was printed on a high quality paper stock, unlike the U.S. magazines, which were mostly printed on cheap pulp paper. We have only auctioned five issues, from 1927, 1931, 1935, 1936, and 1937
Important Added Info: This issue of Le Cinematographie Francaise magazine contains the 38-page Paramount 1931 campaign book (see below). In addition, it has 26 pages with ads from other studios.

IMPORTANT! The studios would send copies of campaign books to many theater owners, and it appears that very few examples have survived. IN ADDITION TO SENDING THEM TO THEATER OWNERS, THEY WOULD SOMETIMES HAVE AN EXTRA PRINT RUN OF THE INTERIOR PAGES RUN OFF, WHICH WOULD BE THEN SENT TO AN EXHIBITOR MAGAZINE AND INCLUDED AS AN ADDITION TO A REGULAR ISSUE OF THAT MAGAZINE, BUT IN THE CASE OF THIS ONE, ONLY PART OF THE CAMPAIGN BOOK IS INCLUDED (see below)!
I have seen many examples where people carefully removed ALL of the portions of the magazine (the front and back cover plus the non-campaign book interior pages), and they have then sold the remaining material as a "campaign book", which it basically is (and could be done with this magazine!), but realize that it is from the over-run that was created so that it could be included in the magazine. Please do not bid on this item unless you have read the above very carefully, and realize you are getting a magazine containing a campaign book, and not the bound campaign book that was created in a separate print run (and of course, you are receiving more material than just the campaign book!). In the case of this magazine, it contains THIRTY-EIGHT PAGES from 68-page Paramount 1931-1932 French campaign book, so obviously, they only printed part of that campaign book in this magazine. Please look at our images on this auction that will show you pages that are surely in this magazine, and there are other pages not pictured, but please do not bid on this magazine thinking that it includes all 68 pages from the standalone campaign book version BECAUSE IT DOES NOT. Some of the movies and stars advertised include Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (with Fredric March), Dishonored (with Marlene Dietrich), Daughter of the Dragon (with Anna May Wong), and others.

Condition: good to very good. There is wear at the spine of the cover and some stains and scuffs on both covers, but the interior pages are in pretty nice condition.
