Flippen, Antonio Moreno, and Robert Monet AND Shane, the classic 1953 George Stevens family relationship cattlemen vs. homesteaders epic cowboy western ("There Never Was a Man Like Shane... There Never Was A Picture Like Shane!"; "Color by Technicolor"; based on the equally fine novel by Jack Schaefer; with a great "Screenplay by A.B. Guthrie, Jr.", and "Additional Dialogue by Jack Sher"; nominated for the Best Director and Best Picture Academy Award) starring Alan Ladd (in the title role as Shane), Jean Arthur (as Marian Starrett; She was a major star of the 1930s, but she was far from an "overnight success"!; she was born in 1900, and appeared in 46 silent movies, mostly in minor roles; once sound movies began, she quickly gained stardom, no doubt partially due to her distinctive voice, and she became a major star in her middle thirties!), Van Heflin (as Joe Starrett), Brandon De Wilde & Jack Palance (both in their nominated for Best Supporting Actor Academy Award roles as the memorable baddest of bad guys, Jack Wilson and Joey 'Little Joe' Starrett!), Ben Johnson (memorable in his small role as Chris Calloway, the bad guy who reforms), Edgar Buchanan (as Fred Lewis), Emile Meyer (in one of his finest roles as Rufe Ryker; excellent character actor with a distinctive gravelly voice), Elisha Cook Jr. (as Frank 'Stonewall' Torrey), Nancy Kulp (as Mrs. Howells), John Dierkes (as Morgan Ryker, brother of Rufe Ryker), Paul McVey (as Sam Grafton), and George Stevens (he doesn't appear in the movie, but the director gave himself one line in the fight scene, where he says "Knock him into that pigpen, Chris!"). Note that some film buffs collectively refer to Shane, Giant, and A Place in the Sun as "George Stevens' American Trilogy". If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this window card was made for a specific local theater (the "Louis"). Often larger theaters would create their own window cards like this one, with blow-ups from newspaper ads. They were NOT issued by the studio that released the movie. Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: very good. Learn More about condition grades
