Around 1948, he was hired as an assistant to artist Earl MacPherson at the Brown & Bigelow company. After MacPherson was stricken by polio, Thompson took over the yearly MacPherson Sketch Book. Perhaps his most famous pin-up art was called Want to See Me Swing My Baton?, and featured art of a sexy majorette.
