An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 13 1/2" x 30 1/4" [34 x 77 cm]) (Learn More) Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, the 1943 Roy William Neill Universal monster horror thriller (the fifth Universal Frankenstein movie) starring Ilona Massey (as Baroness Elsa Frankenstein), Patric Knowles, Bela Lugosi (in the title role as the Frankenstein Monster), Lionel Atwill, Maria Ouspenskaya, Rex Evans, Dwight Frye, Lon Chaney Jr. (in the title role as the Wolf Man; "Lon Chaney in his most terrifying role"; "Lon Chaney as The Wolfman"), Dennis Hoey, Jeff Corey, Doris Lloyd, Adia Kuznetzoff, Martha Vickers (billed as "Martha MacVicar" in her first movie), Gil Perkins (who doubled for Bela Lugosi in some action scenes), and Eddie Parker (who doubled for Lon Chaney Jr. in some action scenes). Note that in this movie, Bela Lugosi took over the role of the Frankenstein monster which had been played by Lon Chaney Jr. in the previous movie, because Lon Chaney Jr. reprised his role of the Wolf Man, which he had created in the 1941 Universal classic! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release Australian daybills from 1940s Universal horror movies are beyond rare! We have never offered even one of them before, and now we are offering both this daybill and one from "The Mummy's Tomb"! It may be many years before we get even one more from any of the 1940s Universal horror movies! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had a diagonal tear 3" above the left end of the top foldline, running into Frankenstein's leg. There was a small hole in the left end of the top foldline, slightly touching the edge of the green background. There was minor wear on the rest of that fold and the other fold. There was a stain in the first "S" of "OUSPENSKAYA", affecting the blue background above and below it. There was a small stain in the bottom center of the blue background area. There were two pinholes in the top center background area. There were pinholes and small tears around the edges of the poster, with small paper loss in the corners, caused by rough removal of the pins (in three corners, only blank white paper was affected, and in the fourth corner, the top right corner, the paper loss extended into the background area). Other than these defects (which are basically pretty minor, and I went into great detail over them only because the poster is so rare), the poster was in pretty nice condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays fantastically (I am envious of the new owner already!). Learn More about condition grades
