An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style A One-Sheet Movie Poster (27" x 41") (Learn More) Charley's Aunt, the 1941 Archie Mayo historical cross-dressing drag college university romantic comedy ("He's funny enough in pants! In skirts he's terrific!"; based on the play by Brandon Thomas) starring Jack Benny, Kay Francis, James Ellison, Edmund Gwenn, Reginald Owen, Arleen Whelan, Laird Cregar, Ernest Cossart, Anne Baxter, and Richard Haydn NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had small areas of paper loss across the right half of the top foldline. The blank borders of the poster were tattered, with tears and areas of paper loss, but fortunately these did not extend into the image area. Other than the above defects, the poster was in surprisingly decent condition. The poster was quite nicely backed. The borders were mostly painted over, but done so in a way that is not very noticeable at all. The top foldline had really expert restoration, and you do not see the restoration there except from inches away. Overall, this poster was quite nicely backed, and looks great!
