An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style Y Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (measures 40" x 60") (Learn More) Irving Berlin's White Christmas, the classic 1954 Michael Curtiz post-World War II sisters holiday singing-and-dancing romantic musical (with classic "Lyrics and music by Irving Berlin"; "The most fabulous music-and-mirth show in motion picture history!"; "Joyous entertainment for every season, any year!!!!") starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, Vera-Ellen, and Dean Jagger. Note that this was the first motion picture to be filmed in VistaVision! Also note that the title song "White Christmas" was first introduced in 1942 in the Fred Astaire/Bing Crosby movie "Holiday Inn", and it proved to be so popular that this movie was made, utilizing part of the plot of that earlier film, and reusing this song, which was now over a decade old, but it proved to be an even greater hit! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. The poster had an 15" tear in the middle of the top border going through the left of the "V" of "VISTA" down through the right edge of Clooney's hair and ending in the middle of her upper arm. There were many creases, smudges, tears, and some small areas of paper loss in the left 3" of the poster, running down the entire side of the poster, somewhat unevenly. There were creases and smudges and some tears running down the right blank border. There were some creases and smudges in the solid background areas, and in the solid tuxedo jackets of the male stars, but very few in the stars' images otherwise. In spite of the damage to the left edge of the poster, I still think it is fair to say that the poster was overall in very good condition, because the damage in the left border was only background image and the left of Vera-Ellen's dress, and the rest of the image was mostly in pretty good condition (except for the long tear in the top center of the poster, but that is a clean tear, and fortunately mostly runs in the background area). I believe the restorer who backed this poster made a wonderful decision in NOT over-restoring the poster, for if it were made to "look perfect", it would have a "painted over" look to it that I personally do not like. This way, you can see the defects described above (although the linenbacking greatly minimizes them, and the ones that had restoration were really expertly restored, even though you can see the restoration from very close up), and the poster overall displays quite well. From any distance away, you see the wonderful image, and are not really distracted at all by the defects described above. I can't imagine a collector who would not enjoy having this great poster displayed on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
