An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French Large Movie Poster (31x47; measures 31 1/4" x 47 1/2" [79 x 121 cm]) (Learn More) Jeanne Dielman 23, Quai du Commerce 1080 Bruxelles, the 1975 Chantal Akerman Belgian/French housewife prostitution melodrama (about a widowed French housewife who has a teen son, and while he is in school, she has men come to her house where she is a prostitute, and in between her appointments, she cleans the house and makes dinner!) starring Delphine Seyrig, Jan Decorte, Henri Storck, Jacques Doniol-Valcroze, and Yves Bical. Note that this movie has been VERY controversial since it was first released in 1975. Some critics hailed it as a masterpiece, and others found it tedious. It runs a massive 3 hours and 22 minutes, in "real time", meaning that the camera does not cut, so when the lead actress is say, cutting vegetables, you are watching her for the entire time that she does that! The critics who loved the movie saw this as representative of what women at that time dealt with on a daily basis, and many called it a feminist masterpiece. This was a somewhat minority view UNTIL 2022, when Sight and Sound magazine, in its poll of top critics held every 10 years, announced that this movie had been picked as the "greatest movie ever made", over Vertigo, Citizen Kane, and all the rest! Since the movie surely played in a very limited number of theaters when it first opened, movie posters from it have always been incredibly rare, and until 2023, we had never auctioned even one poster from this movie from any country, at which time we were consigned a first release French 31 1/4" x 47 1/2" poster! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is the poster referenced above! We have never before auctioned this French poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this partially French movie, and, as noted above, it was picked as the "greatest film ever made" by the prestigious English movie magazine Sight and Sound! The high bidder on this auction will have an incredibly rare poster to display (whether in their home, or in a place of business, or in a museum setting)! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster was printed to look like an "old painting" with "faux" aging, that is part of the printing. It had very minor fold wear. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
