Fanfan la Tulipe (released in the U.S. in 1953 as "Fanfan the Tulip"), the 1952 Christian-Jaque Italian/French swashbuckler romantic adventure comedy (set in the 18th century, a very clever story of a poor young man who has his fortune told by a gypsy, and she tells him that if he enlists in the army, he will become famous and marry the king's daughter, but after he enlists, he discovers the "gypsy" was actually the recruiting sergeant's daughter, and it was all a trick, but he sets out to make the false "fortune" come true, and by golly, he does!) starring Gerard Philipe (in the title role as Fanfan), Gina Lollobrigida, Marcel Herrand, Olivier Hussenot, Henri Rollan, Genevieve Page, and Jean Paredes

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this poster is incredibly rare, and we have never auctioned it before. We only one time auctioned the French one-panel poster, which has very similar art to this poster, and that one was in much lesser condition and it sold for $685 in 2012. Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 14 1/4" x 18 1/2" [36 x 47 cm].

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster originally had a blank top that was neatly trimmed off (this is commonly done with Belgian posters, similar to how the blank top is trimmed off of U.S. window cards). The poster also had two horizontal folds and two vertical folds. There were some tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds. There was a faint partial stamp in the top center under the first "LO" of "LOLLOBRIGIDA". Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
