An Original Vintage Movie Souvenir Program Book (measures 6" x 9" [15 x 23 cm]; 20 pages) (Learn More)

Intolerance, the 1916 D.W. Griffith silent anti-discrimination melodrama ("Love's Struggle throughout the Ages"; "D.W. Griffith's Colossal $2,000,000 Spectacle") starring Olga Grey, Mildred Harris, Elmo Lincoln, Robert Harron, Mae Marsh, Alfred Paget, and Constance Talmadge (billed as "Georgia Pearce"). The movie was intended to show discrimination throughout the history of man, and it has a framing device of Lillian Gish (as "a fairy girl with sunlit hair and a hand on the cradle of humanity") rocking that cradle, and it then goes to a modern story (in 1916!) and then a story of Christ in Judea in 27 A.D. and then a medieval French story in 1572 A.D., and finally, a Babylonian story in 539 B.C., with Gish and the rocking cradle in between each of these stories! Note that director D.W. Griffith made this movie after the huge backlash against him that occurred when he made "The Birth of a Nation" the previous year (because that movie presented a sympathetic view of the Ku Klux Klan).
