An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The First Round-up, the 1934 Gus Meins Our Gang juvenile comedy short starring Spanky MacFarland, Matthew 'Stymie' Beard, Scotty Beckett (best remembered for playing the young Al Jolson in "The Jolson Story"), Bubbles Trin, Willie Mae Taylor (as Buckwheat), and Billie 'Buckwheat' Thomas (not as Buckwheat!). Note that Our Gang fans are familiar with Billie Thomas playing Buckwheat, but actually, the character of Buckwheat was first played by Carlena Beard (Stymie's sister), in two early shorts, in 1932 and 1934. Then the character was played by another girl, Willie Mae Taylor, starting in this movie, and continuing for two more. In "Mama's Little Pirate", Billie Thomas took over the role of Buckwheat, having previously appeared in just two Our Gang shorts, this one, where he was billed as "kid emptying canteens" and in the earlier "For Pete's Sake", where he was billed as "kid"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has a great full stone litho showing seven of the Our Gang kids (including 5 year-old Spanky, Scotty Beckett, and Stymie). It also shows Buckwheat, but it is the original female Buckwheat, Willie Mae Taylor (see above)! Also note that almost all Our Gang first release one-sheets are extremely rare. But the ones from the sound movies of the 1930s are far more rare than those from the silent movies of the 1920s (although the silent ones are themselves quite rare!). The likely reason for this is that in the 1920s, many movies were short subjects (only one or two reels), so most theaters probably exhibited posters from several of the ones they were showing, including probably the Our Gangs, which were quite popular. But in the middle 1930s, just about all movies were feature length, and movies showed either one or two features, and they likely didn't display posters for the shorts they were showing, which would likely explain the unbelievable rarity of 1930s Our Gang one-sheets! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds. It had extra creases and a few tiny bits of paper loss in the bottom horizontal fold, with very minor wear on the other folds. It had tiny pinholes in the corners. Otherwise, the poster was in really nice condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Learn More about condition grades
