Date Sold 7/18/2013Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 7 Original 1949 (from the first release of this movie in Switzerland) Vintage Theatrical Swiss Lobby Card (LC; measures 13" x 17 1/4" [33 x 44 cm]) (Learn More) Ladri di Biciclette (released in the U.S. in 1949 as "The Bicycle Thief" and in England as "Bicycle Thieves"), the classic 1948 Vittorio De Sica Italian neorealist melodrama ("Academy Award outstanding foreign language film 1949"; about a man and his son who search for a vital missing bicycle; most people rightfully consider this one of the handful of absolute finest movies ever made!) starring Lamberto Maggiorani, Enzo Staiola, Lianella Carell, Gino Saltamerenda, and Vittorio Antonucci. Note that the Italian title literally translates to "The Bicycle Thieves", but for unknown reasons, the movie became "The Bicycle Thief" when it was released in English-speaking countries! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that six of these Swiss lobby cards have a stamp on the back from the "Departement de Justice" in Geneva that is dated "9 NOV. 1949"! The seventh card does not have a stamp on the back, but this would seem to indicate that these are surely from 1949. Note that these lobby cards measure 13" x 17 1/4" [33 x 44 cm]. Also note that this Swiss lobby card was made by the distributor creating a set of identical stiff board printed backings with printed information about the movie, with a blank space for a still, and then they would attach a number of original Italian stills to those boards, thus creating a set of Swiss lobby cards. Note that the board has metal grommets inserted into each corner, to make displaying of this Swiss lobby card far easier. Note that because the sets of Swiss lobby cards we are auctioning are both oversized and quite heavy, the buyers of them will have to pay the actual cost of shipping (wherever the buyer lives). So after the auction ends, the high bidder on this item will need to get a shipping quote for sending it (but it CAN be combined with any of the other items in this set of auctions). Condition: good. Each of the cards has pinholes and some surface paper loss around the edges. Each has a tiny censor stamp in the bottom left corner of the "tipped in" still (see our images).
