What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had a 17" clean vertical tear near the middle of the poster (starting in the yellow background above the word "SOLDIER" and continuing down to the left of the woman's shoulder. It also had some darkening across the upper part of the image and the lower part of the top credits (see our image). Otherwise, the poster was in pretty nice condition prior to linenbacking (especially considering it is 95 years old!). The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
