Artist: Tom William Chantrell Important Added Info: Note that this is a very cool "ad slick" (containing 5 pages). Ad slicks were sections of newspaper ads that were sent to theaters so that they could cut out the ad or ads they intended to run in their local newspaper. In this particular case, this ad slick was sent to theaters on March 15, 1978, just before the Academy Awards, where Star Wars had been nominated for 11 Academy Awards. By sending it to the theaters in advance, they could cut out the number of awards that the film won the night the ceremonies ended, and then submit them to the newspaper the following morning, and then the next day's newspaper would contain a big ad from them highlighting the many awards the movie had won. There were also snipes that read "including BEST PICTURE", "BEST DIRECTOR - George Lucas", "BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY - George Lucas", BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR - Alec Guinness", "BEST ORIGINAL SCORE - John Williams", and "BEST VISUAL EFFECTS". Of course, the Academy Awards greatly snubbed Star Wars (many people considered it to be retaliation for it being "too commercial"), and it did not win any of those top awards, but it did win seven awards in all, so newspapers were still able to run an ad highlighting that, but sadly, most of those snipes were unusable! Condition: very good. The ad slick was folded and has slightly darkened around the edges (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
