A really dedicated collector who loved this movie assembled this huge collection of items over many years, with quite a few from the first release, and there is even a special red record! It would surely take a lifetime to collect all these items, but the winner of this auction will have an instant collection! In addition, he also collected large numbers of lobby cards (original and re-release), promotional material, and 8x10 stills, which we are auctioning in three other separate auctions! Measurements: 10 1/2" x 13 1/2"Of course, Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ is the classic 1960 (it premiered in late 1959, to qualify for the Oscars, but it is generally considered a 1960 movie) William Wyler (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Biblical religious adventure epic ( winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; winner of 11 Academy Awards, which was the record won by a single movie at that time) starring Charlton Heston (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Judah Ben-Hur), Jack Hawkins (as Quintus Arrius), Haya Harareet (as Esther), Stephen Boyd (as Messala), Hugh Griffith (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Sheik Ilderim), Martha Scott (as Miriam), Cathy O'Donnell (as Tirzah), Sam Jaffe (as Simonides), and Claude Heater (as Jesus, but his face is never shown throughout the movie, although you see parts of his body). We have pictured the front and back of all the items. UPDATED 11/06/2023: Note that we want to clarify that ALL of the 11x14 stills in this lot (and also ALL of the 8x10s stills in the other lot) are ALL from the 1960 first release of this classic movie (the lot with the lobby cards contains many re-release items, but all of these stills are first release). Condition: good to very good. Some of the stills have some small creases in the corners and some have changed color somewhat, but otherwise, they are in pretty nice condition (see our images).
