A Linenbacked Original Vintage French Magazine Spread (a 2-page spread linenbacked together; measures 11 3/4" x 17 1/4") (Learn More) L'Assiette au Beurre (literally translates to "The Butter Plate") was an illustrated French weekly magazine of humor and satire from 1901 to 1936. The first series ended in 1912, but the magazine returned in 1921 and finally ceased publication in 1936. The magazine's caricature and editorial cartoon content was drawn from a wide variety of artists, and the content often focused on socialist and anarchist ideas. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. These two magazine pages had staple holes and paper loss in the top and bottom center. Overall, the pages were in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the pages "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the pages).
