A Linenbacked Special Poster (measures 14" x 17" [36 x 43 cm]) (Learn More) Photo News Flashes, the 1946 news poster ("There is an economic as well as a humane value in preventing accidents") featuring information about the Greek Orthodox annual ceremony of the Feast of the Epiphany, which takes place in January. This poster shows an image of Constantino Kotteakos leaping into the Hudson river from a crowded New York City dock to retrieve the cross used in the ceremony (it is intentionally thrown into the water). We found news articles from 1948 and 1949 about Kotteakos and the event (the cross was lost in 1948 and the Archbishop had to order him out of the water, and Kotteakos got into a fight during the ceremony in 1949). Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had a few creases in the image. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking.
