An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style D One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Libeled Lady, the 1936 Jack Conway romantic love triangle newspaper journalism comedy (nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; an extremely complicated story of an heiress, played by Myrna Loy, who sues a newspaper for libel, and the editor, played by Tracy, is afraid he will lose, so he hires Powell to catch Loy in a compromising situation with the help of his girlfriend, played by Harlow, who will instead temporarily marry Powell to make the scheme work, but of course, Powell and Loy end up actually falling in love, and everything works out in the end) starring Jean Harlow, William Powell, Myrna Loy, Spencer Tracy, Walter Connolly, and Inez Palange (uncredited as the fortune teller). Can anyone imagine today's studios making a movie with so many top level stars? It is extremely rare to see three top stars in any movie, but this movie had four of the all-time greatest, and it is a thoroughly enjoyable movie! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1936 posters from this movie are incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned two jumbo window cards and an insert (and NO other posters, only lobby cards and stills) from this movie until we received this one-sheet, which we have never auctioned before! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had paper loss at the top crossfold, with small paper loss at the middle crossfold. It had partial extra vertical folds to the left and right of the middle half of the vertical fold, and there were creases and small tears scattered down the center. There was some tiny paper loss and some extra creases by the horizontal folds, with pinholes and a few tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. A really talented restorer did a wonderful job with the linenbacking, and not only does it display really well, but few people could spot the restoration it has had (and it has truly not had very much restoration).
