HYDE 5 camera original 8x10 negatives 1941 Tracy, Bergman, Turner, candids! Date Sold 6/11/2023Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 5 Photographic Negatives (measure 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm]) (Learn More) Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the classic 1941 Victor Fleming romantic love triangle horror thriller ("A good woman -- A bad woman -- He needed the love of both!"; "He wanted excitement... yet he dared not admit it to himself. He yearned for secret romance... but he hid his desires from his beautiful young fiancee. Then his dreams became reality... and thrilling drama flooded his lie."; "Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson") starring Spencer Tracy (in the title role as Dr. Henry Jekyll/Mr. Hyde), Ingrid Bergman, Lana Turner, Donald Crisp, Ian Hunter, Barton MacLane, and C. Aubrey Smith. Note that this movie was a remake of the 1920 silent movie with John Barrymore, and also a remake of the 1931 sound version with Fredric March. Not only were March and Tracy Best Actor Oscar winners, but they also much later played opposite each other in the courtroom drama, "Inherit the Wind". Also note that it appears that MGM was somewhat shy about presenting this movie as a horror movie, because unlike the earlier versions, both of which were from Paramount Pictures, MGM not only did not push the horror elements of this movie in their advertising, but they also barely showed Tracy as Hyde in any of their publicity material! Finally, note that based on their previous roles each actress had taken, it would have seemed much more reasonable to have Lana Turner play the "bad" woman and have Ingrid Bergman play Dr. Jekyll's noble girlfriend, but the two took the opposite roles, and both did admirably! We have put a scan of each negative that shows the "positive image" (in addition to a scan of the negative image). REMEMBER THAT WHAT YOU RECEIVE WILL BE PHOTOGRAPHIC NEGATIVES, NOT POSITIVE IMAGES LIKE YOU ARE SEEING. However, we will provide the winning bidder of this auction the positive image scans that are both high quality and not watermarked (on request to the winning bidder, and only the winning bidder). We scanned them, so that bidders could see just how high quality they are. What are camera original negatives? These often (but not always) have retouching on the emulsion side, and negative numbers written in India ink on the front. Depending on the studio some 8x10 negatives may be trimmed or have numbers or information embedded into the sides of the negative. Obviously, camera original negatives are far more rare (and far more desirable) than studio-issued ones, but both are very high quality. Condition: fair. These negatives have a very strong "vinegar" odor. They have signs of "vinegar syndrome" and should be stored properly to slow this progression. Please bear this significant defect in mind before bidding on these. Of course, once one scans these transparencies, this is no longer an issue as far as making making high quality prints from them, but it is important to bear this in mind BEFORE bidding. In addition, These have India ink numbering at the bottom, and retouching on the back that was done by the photographer. Each has some dust, light scratches and other minor flaws that could easily be cleaned before printing or retouched after scanning. Learn More about condition grades
