A 1970s Photocopied Movie Script (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm], 100 pages) (Learn More) Nightmare Alley, the classic 1947 Edmund Goulding carnival sideshow romantic love triangle crime film noir melodrama ("20th Century Fox triumph!"; "Based on the novel by William Lindsay Gresham"; about a carnival barker at a circus who makes significant mistakes in his life, and is ultimately reduced to being the "sideshow geek" in a truly nightmarish movie) starring Tyrone Power Jr., Joan Blondell, Coleen Gray, Helen Walker, Taylor Holmes, Mike Mazurki, Ian Keith, Gene Roth, Taylor Holmes, and Julia Dean. Note that this movie was remade in 2021 by Guillermo del Toro, starring Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a photocopied script of the original screenplay for this movie that was sent to agent Paul Kohner (see below). But because it is a photocopy, we think it is likely one that was created in the 1970s, and we think that it might have been created by someone in the business wanting to do a remake of this classic movie. It ended up in the files of Paul Kohner (see below), but we don't know how or when that occurred. PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS SCRIPT THINKING IT IS THE ORIGINAL FROM 1947, BECAUSE IT IS A COPY OF THAT SCRIPT, LIKELY FROM THE 1970S. Note that this screenplay was written by Jules Furthman. Note that this is a script for a screenplay that was sent to agent Paul Kohner (see below), and it is 100% certainly an original script that was created at the time we indicate above, and it is NOT any sort of copy or later creation. The person who purchases this script is solely purchasing the script itself, and NOT any right to reproduce it in any way, or publish it. This script comes from the estate of Paul Kohner, who had a remarkable life! Kohner was born in Czechoslovakia in 1902, and he was a journalist working at his father's newspaper. He came to Hollywood after interviewing Carl Laemmle, who gave him a job as a publicity man. He became the head of Universal's European department in Berlin, and returned to the U.S. in the early 1930s, and left Universal in 1938, becoming a publicity agent. Among his clients were some of the greatest film stars ever, including Greta Garbo, Ingrid Bergman, and also great directors such as John Huston and Billy Wilder. He had close personal friendships with many of his clients, and he saved every bit of correspondence and paper work from his agency! He was married to actress Lupita Tovar from 1932 until his death in 1988. Amazingly, after his death, few institutions showed interest in his immense files, and only a small amount ended up being saved, with a lot literally thrown away! Our consignor purchased the item offered here from Mr. Kohner's estate in 1989, and he has held it until now, when he has consigned several items from Mr. Kohner's estate to eMoviePoster.com, and each item is being auctioned separately. Condition: very good. One of the interior pages has some small tears in the right edge. Note that we have photographed the cover of the script, the title page, the final page of the script (the one that reads "THE END"), and one or more interior pages.
