An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) The Great O'Malley, the 1937 William Dieterle family relationship police crime melodrama ("They called him the cop without a heart 'til he fell for a tot without a fear!"; "When the Toughest Copper Out of Erin Meets the Killer of 'Black Legion'"; about a by-the-book cop who ends up ruining the life of a man with a disabled daughter, by being too strict, but that makes the cop change his ways, and he tries to help the family he has hurt) starring Pat O'Brien (in the title role as James O'Malley), Sybil Jason, Humphrey Bogart, Ann Sheridan, Frieda Inescort, Donald Crisp, Henry O'Neill, Craig Reynolds, Hobart Cavanaugh, and Gordon Hart. Note that this movie was released a year after Bogart became a major star with "The Petrified Forest", and yet he is not only third billed, he is billed under child actress Sybil Jason, plus the poster designer could not find room for him on the one-sheet! Note that Sybil Jason was born in South Africa, but was a singing and dancing child prodigy in England from the age of 2. When she was 6, Jack Warner saw her perform, and signed her to a contract hoping she could be a child star for Warner Bros. to equal Shirley Temple at 20th Century-Fox. However, after a few movies, including starring opposite Al Jolson in "The Singing Kid", she did not deliver the hoped for results, and Warner Bros. did not renew her contract in 1938. Daryl Zanuck signed her at 20th Century-Fox, putting her with Shirley Temple in "The Little Princess". She was supposed to have a major role in "The Blue Bird", opposite Shirley Temple, but most of her scenes were cut from the movie (perhaps because it was feared she would "upstage" Shirley Temple, who was "getting old"!), and she "retired". In 1947, at the age of 18, she married a Navy man, and they had a child and were married for 58 years until his passing in 2006, and she passed away in 2011 at the age of 83! There are light creases scattered throughout the still, but they are mostly only noticeable when the still is tilted to the light. Learn More about condition grades
