Date Sold 9/22/2009Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Danish Movie Poster (measures approximately 24" x 33") (Learn More) Der Laufer von Marathon (released in English-speaking countries as "The Marathon Runner"), the 1933 E.A. Dupont (Ewald Andre Dupont) German Olympic track running sports melodrama (with a screenplay by Thea von Harbou, longtime collaborator with Fritz Lang, who wrote the screenplay for "Metropolis"; from the novel by Werner Scheff) starring Brigitte Helm (best remembered for her starring role in Fritz Lang's "Metropolis"), Victor De Kowa, Trude Von Molo, Hans Brausewetter, Ursula Grabley, and Paul Hartmann. Note that we are unable to find any information about this movie beyond the fact that it was partly filmed at the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles. This is VERY frustrating! It combines the talents of a great director, a great writer, and the actress who starred in "Metropolis", so we would think it might be a wonderful movie, and of course, it has some strong connection to Olympic marathon running, and we don't even know what the plot of the movie is! If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Erik Frederiksen Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Note that the art on this poster is signed "Erik F.". The artist's full name is Erik Frederiksen, and we have been told by a Danish poster expert that he not only drew movie posters in Denmark in the 1930s but he also drew travel posters. We had never seen any art by this artist prior to discovery of the Danish posters we are auctioning, and it appears that few Danish collectors or dealers had seen them either. Certainly he must be regarded as one of the premier poster artists of the 1930s, but he is not known today, likely because of the extreme scarcity of his posters. Condition: very good to fine. The poster was folded at one time, but it has been laying flat for so long that the foldlines are virtually invisible. There is some tiny paper loss in the bottom black border, two 1/2" tears in the lower right border and a 1/2" tear near the middle of the top border. There is a stamp in the top left from the Danish censor. Other than the above, the poster is in pretty nice condition, and after a simple linenbacking, it will look fantastic, and it will require little paint restoration (some people choose to restore away censor stamps, but others choose to leave them, because they are part of the history of the poster).
