A 1939 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) The Desert Trail, the 1935 Lewis D. Collins gambling cowboy western (Wayne is a rodeo star who, along with his professional gambler friend, is falsely accused of armed robbery, and they escape, and head to "Poker City" to find the real robbers) starring John Wayne, Lafe McKee, Mary Kornman, Paul Fix, Eddy Chandler, Carmen Laroux, and Al Ferguson. Note that this is one of the 16 westerns John Wayne made for Lone Star Productions, produced by Paul Malvern. Lone Star was a subsidiary of Monogram Pictures. For the very first release of these 16 movies, lobby cards were made that say "A Lone Star Production". After John Wayne achieved major success in 1939, the movies were re-released with new lobby cards that say "A Monogram Picture". The lobby cards from both releases are extremely rare, and the ones from the very first Lone Star release are unbelievably rare (in some cases, only a very few or no lobby cards are known to exist!). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that lobby cards from the 1930s John Wayne westerns are extremely rare (in some cases almost as rare as the posters, which is very unusual for any 1930s movies!). Perhaps next-to-no theaters ordered lobby cards for these B-western movies. Monogram acquired the rights to the earlier John Wayne Lone Star westerns and re-released them somewhere around 1939, but no one I am aware of has been able to date them any more closely. There are "Monogram" lobby cards from this movie, but no one I am aware of has ever seen a "Lone Star" lobby card. That would technically make this lobby card a "re-release", but if there are no earlier lobby cards, and these lobby cards are extremely scarce, then being a "re-release" is certainly pretty insignificant! Condition: good to very good. there are multiple tack holes with stains around the holes in each of the corners; there are creases in the right corners and tack holes in the center of the top and bottom borders; there are two scratch marks in the lower right corner of the image; there are many light smudges around the edges of the card and in the light colored wall behind John Wayne Learn More about condition grades
