An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Limelight, the 1952 Charles Chaplin stage acting aging comedian romantic comedy ("Charles Chaplin in his human drama 'Limelight' it will move you to love, laughter and tears"; "The masterpiece of laughter and tears from the master of comedy!") starring Charlie Chaplin (Charles Chaplin; "In his human drama"; as Calvero), Claire Bloom, Sydney Chaplin, Nigel Bruce, Norman Lloyd, Buster Keaton (this was the only movie Keaton and Chaplin appeared in together!), Marjorie Bennett, "and for the Ballet, Andre Eglevsky, and Melissa Hayden". Note that this movie was released in 1952, but did not play in any theaters in the Los Angeles area until the 1972 re-release! This made it eligible for the Academy Awards in 1972, 20 years after its initial release! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: fair to good. This poster has been linenbacked, but it was not very well done, either because the restorer did not do a very good job, or because the years since it has been linenbacked have not been kind to the poster. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. Generally, it had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and surface paper loss and creases along parts of many foldlines. There were NSS numbers written on the back of the center of the poster in marker, and they bleed through to the front. The poster was not that well backed, because you can see signs of the above general defects and the restoration of the defects (in some cases, as should be immediately evident in our image, the linenbacker did no restoration to some of the defects). I would think few collectors would want to display it as it is, without someone performing some additional restoration. Certainly, a talented restorer could perform additional restoration (either with or without re-backing the poster), but it might be fairly expensive to have this done, so bear that in mind before you place a bid.
