A Circa Late 1940s (from the first Belgian release) Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Belgian Movie Poster (measures 11" x 16 1/4" [28 x 41 cm]) (Learn More) Ice Follies of 1939, the 1939 Reinhold Schunzel romantic ice skating sports musical ("Sparking with stars, gayety, girls, music!"; about a married team of ice skaters, but then the wife gets the chance to be in movies, which works, except it jeopardizes their marriage) starring Joan Crawford, James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart), Lew Ayres, Lewis Stone, "The International Ice Follies" (with Bess Ehrhardt, Roy Shipstad, Eddie Shipstad, and Oscar Johnson), and Lionel Stander. Note that this movie featured the unusual romantic pairing of Joan Crawford and Jimmy Stewart, and they really didn't "click", and they didn't make another movie together. Also note that Roy Shipstad, Eddie Shipstad and Oscar Johnson were skaters who founded "The International Ice Follies" in 1936, and it became very successful, and this movie was set at the Ice Follies, but a big problem for the producers was that none of the top stars could skate at all, so they had to center the plot around non-skating scenes, which made for an unusual movie! Later on, the show became known as "Shipstad and Johnson's Ice Follies", and in 1980, they merged with "Holiday on Ice", which is owned by Disney, and they still produce many successful shows with the "...on Ice" titles to this day! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster was printed on the back of an old map! During World War II in Belgium, there was a massive paper shortage, and so they used whatever paper they could find to print the movie posters, and in many cases they used old maps, and printed the movie posters on the reverse. They often also made the posters smaller, so they could get more posters printed. This practice continued for a couple of years after World War II. Since these posters are original, and since all such posters are printed on the back of maps or other posters, this is not considered a defect by almost all collectors. Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. There are remnants of a snipe at top and there is some writing in the left of the bottom edge of the poster. There is small paper loss in the left and right of the top edge of the poster and there are some smudges and minor creases scattered throughout. Learn More about condition grades
