An Undated (probably 1930s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Danish Movie Poster (24x35; measures 24 3/4" x 35 1/4") (Learn More) A Sailor-Made Man, the 1921 Fred C. Newmeyer silent slapstick Navy romantic comedy (written and produced by Hal Roach; about a wealthy playboy whose girlfriend's father tells him he needs to get a "real job" if he wants to marry his daughter, and he impulsively joins the Navy!) starring Harold Lloyd, Mildred Davis (who, two years after this movie, would marry Lloyd, and they would stay married for 46 years until her passing), Noah Young, Dick Sutherland, William Gillespie, and Fred Guiol. Note that this film was intended to be a 2-reel short but audiences loved the 4-reel test screening so much that Lloyd and Roach decided not to edit it down to 2 reels, and it became Lloyd's first feature-length film. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we were consigned a Danish program that matches this poster, and it was in with programs from the very early 1930s, so we think this is an early 1930s Danish re-release, but it could possibly be original. Also, note that we can't be certain this poster is from "A Sailor-Made Man", but the Danish title literally translates to "And Then To Sea", and it would make sense that this poster would be for that title. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was placed on to a very thin linen backing shortly after being printed. The purpose was to reinforce the poster, so that it would survive, when it was passed from theater to theater, and when it was put up on walls and taken down. In the case of this poster, this worked exceedingly well, because the poster has survived wonderfully! It has tiny paper loss at the bottom crossfold and some tiny creases in the left of the bottom horizontal fold, but is otherwise in quite nice condition. This poster could be professionally removed from the original linen and placed onto a new linen backing, but I am not sure that anyone would want to do it in this case, because the poster is in such nice condition!
