Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (released in other English-speaking countries as "Butch Cassidy" and as "Butch Cassidy and the Kid"), the classic 1969 George Roy Hill (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) outlaw cowboy western ("You've never met a pair like Butch and The Kid"; "Not that it matters, but most of it is true."; "They're taking trains... They're taking banks... And they're taking one piece of baggage!"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; with a superb script by William Goldman) starring Paul Newman (in the title role as Butch Cassidy; "is Butch Cassidy"), Robert Redford (in the title role as The Sundance Kid; "The Sundance Kid is Robert Redford"), Katharine Ross ("is Etta Place"), Strother Martin, Jeff Corey (as the old sheriff), Henry Jones (as the bike salesman), Ted Cassidy (as Harvey Logan), George Furth (as Woodcock), Cloris Leachman (as Agnes), Kenneth Mars (as the Marshal), Timothy Scott (as News Carver), and Charles Dierkop (as Flat Nose Curry)

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that these posters are printed almost entirely in English except for tiny Japanese copyright information at the bottom, which is the only way to identify them as "Japanese" posters. We don't know how these were used or distributed, and whether they were sold or given away, and whether they were solely distributed in Japan, or also other places. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that the Paul Newman poster measures 29 1/4" x 41 1/4" and the Robert Redford poster measures 31 1/4" x 42 3/4".

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The Paul Newman style had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and a few tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds, with minor border wear. The Robert Redford style had some tiny tears in the right half of the top fold, with a few stains in the background in that area, and some dot stains in the right border to the right of that area. Both posters were backed "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. They certainly can be displayed on the new owner's wall side by side, or one might choose to have additional restoration performed to the Robert Redford style, surely without re-backing the poster.
