Important Added Info: : Note that there are unusual movie posters, but this might be one of the most unusual ones we have ever seen! It was found together with several other similar posters from the same time period (from the very late 1960s to the very early 1970s), and we are certain it dates from when this movie first opened. But exactly what is it? It is a movie poster that measures 30" x 40", but it is not printed on paper! Rather, it is printed on a plastic material that is likely acetate. It has full-color printing on both sides, with a tiny "PRINTED IN U.S.A." in the bottom right of the solid background area. We would have to think that this was intended to be displayed in light boxes, but for whatever reason, it either was abandoned before it was ever implemented, or it was tried and quickly abandoned. Given the rarity of these types of posters, we think it is more likely that this got abandoned before it started (perhaps the cost of making the posters was too high, or perhaps theaters didn't want to pay to have expensive light boxes installed). In April 2021, we auctioned a special acetate 2001: A Space Odyssey poster, and it auctioned for $15,500

Condition: fair to good. The poster was found rolled. It has a pronounced curl to it and we don't think that simply flattening it will "uncurl" it. It has splits in the material in the left and right borders, with a 3" split in the upper right border and a 10" split near the top of the right border, with some smaller splits next to it. It has several splits at center left with small material loss. It has some small areas of loss in the material in the lower right border. It has a few light stains scattered throughout, which likely can be cleaned, given it is a plastic-like material. If it can be made to "relax", then it can either be displayed as it is, or possibly the splits can be mended. If the plastic/acetate material can't be made to relax, then certainly, one option would be to frame the poster between two sheets of Plexiglas, which would certainly keep the poster completely flat. We highly recommend that bidders on this poster talk to poster restorers or experts in other kinds of restoration BEFORE placing a bid on this poster. It seems to be one of only two examples of this poster that there are, and the new owner absolutely should use the best possible conservation techniques to preserve it. Please be sure to read all of the above carefully and look at our super-sized image BEFORE bidding on this extremely rare and unusual poster!
