Artist: Herbert Ryman Important Added Info: Note that these are the actual original storyboards that were used to plot out the scenes of this movie. Often, storyboards contain Photostats or copies of the artist's work, but in this case, the artist, Herbert Ryman, drew each panel on an approximately 5" x 6 1/4" piece, and glued them in three rows of three on each storyboard, and he hand signed each of the panels, so the winner of this auction gets 18 pieces of signed original art by Herbert Ryman! The name "Herbert Ryman" may not be familiar to you, but he had major accomplishments in Hollywood history! He was an artist who worked in watercolor, oils, and pen & ink drawings, and in the mid 1930s, when he was in his mid 20s, he went to work for MGM in their art department, and contributed to the look of movies like David Copperfield and Mutiny on the Bounty. In 1938, he went to Walt Disney, where he worked on Disney's great follow-up features to Snow White, when they were solely in the planning stages, including Dumbo and Fantasia. In 1953, Walt Disney personally asked him to make concept drawings of a theme park he was hoping to open, and Walt's brother Roy took Ryman's drawings to the bankers in New York, who provided the financing for what would become Disneyland! Ryman passed away in 1989 at the age of 78. Our consignor purchased these storyboards in a Profiles in History auction in 2012. Also note that these storyboards are on heavy boards and can't be rolled and need to be sent in a large flat package that measures approximately 22" x 32". Condition: very good. There is some wear around the blank edges of the large boards and there was once tape across the bottom edge of each, but the small panels are all in excellent condition!
