An Original Vintage Folded Belgian World War II Poster (measures 9 3/4" x 13 3/4" [25 x 35 cm]) (Learn More)

Zwijgt (literally translates to "Silence"), the 1945 Belgian World War II (WWII) Home Front poster (with a tagline that translates to "The enemy is listening") encouraging citizens to safeguard important information, and featuring Wilchar art of Hitler with a swastika on his earlobe. Note that this poster was produced after most of the country was liberated from the Nazi German-occupying forces in September and October of 1944.
Artist: Wilchar
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have only auctioned one in all our years of auctioning and that was in 2014 (and now that very same poster has been reconsigned to us for this auction, so it is still the only example we have ever auctioned!). Note also that this poster is printed on the back of part of another poster! During World War II, there were massive paper shortages in Belgium. Where Belgian movie posters had previously been approximately 23" x 32", there was such a shortage of paper that not only did they often have to print them on the back of other posters or maps, but during World War II, the size of the posters shrank dramatically, with some of them as small as 11" x 15". This situation continued even after World War II, until around 1946 or 1947, when they began making Belgian movie posters in a size of roughly 14" x 22", which became the standard size, and continued for decades like these that are from during World War II or immediately after, and which are printed in a small size (often on the back of other posters or maps) are INCREDIBLY rare (surely they did not print many, and surely many of them were soon recycled themselves! Note finally that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Note that we were just consigned a wonderful collection of 59 war posters, most from World War II (which we are auctioning in 59 separate auctions)! Included in this collection are some posters we have never auctioned before, and some we have only auctioned once or twice before (sometimes only many years ago). This is a wonderful opportunity to obtain some or all of these historic posters, many of which have great images!).

Condition: good to very good. There is some small pencil writing at lower right to the right of the title and there is a single tack hole at upper center. There are small pieces of tape on back of the right edges (not put there for any restoration purpose) but they have little or no effect on the front. It is otherwise in pretty nice condition!
