Date Sold 4/16/2015Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A 1964 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian Two-Panel (known in Italy as a "4 Fogli") Movie Poster (2p; measures 55" x 78" [140 x 198 cm]) (Learn More) No Road Back, the 1957 Montgomery Tully English crime thriller ("A tigress of in crime in the night-club jungle!"; "-with the crimson stain of murder on a fortune in stolen gems!"; "Night-club crime ring ruled by queen of evil!"; "From the play by Falkland L. Cary and Philip Weathers") starring Margaret Rawlings, Eleanor Summerfield, Skip Homeier, Paul Carpenter, Patricia Dainton, Norman Wooland, Alfie Bass, and Sean Connery (very young and unbilled in this role!). Note that this was Connery's first real film role after having appeared as an extra several years before! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Renato Casaro Important Added Info: Note that, in a massive case of deceptive advertising, the distributors of this obscure 1957 movie re-released it in 1964 (after Sean Connery's great success as James Bond) as a Sean Connery starring spy thriller (when Connery had actually had a small part in the movie), and the Italian poster designers even had the nerve to put "007" on the poster! It was incredibly unfair to moviegoers in 1964, but it made for a great poster! Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had paper loss at some crossfolds, with larger paper loss at the bottom right crossfold. It had tears and areas of paper loss on most of the foldlines, with a 15" vertical tear near the bottom center of the poster, going through the second "G" of "GANGSTER". Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
